OPP Association Supports “The Push for Change” with $6,000 Donation

Date: September 22, 2016

We first heard Joe Roberts’ story earlier this year at the Push for Change symposium held in Collingwood. His journey from a homeless addict to a successful business man inspired every one of us. His quest to push a shopping cart across Canada in an effort to raise funds to prevent youth homelessness was a perfect fit for our organization.
Every day, our members see the direct impacts of youth homelessness in communities from Dryden to Essex. Many offer assistance where they can while asking a fundamental question – What can we do to prevent this from occurring?

At our annual spring meeting, which brings together OPPA Branch executives and representatives from across Ontario, the Board of Directors shared Joe’s inspirational story with the delegates. We showed them the videos and almost instantly, there was overwhelming support for Joe and his noble cause. The delegates challenged our head office and each other to step-up and show financial support for this worthy cause, and our members delivered on that challenge.

On behalf of the OPP Association and our nearly 10,000 uniform and civilian members, President Rob Jamieson presented a cheque to Joe Roberts and The Push for Change in the amount of $6,000. Our best wishes are with Joe as he continues his journey of awareness and we thank him for binging consciousness to such an important cause.
