Today, December 27th., 2006 I thought I would take a short walk down memory lane and reminisce about the start of My great adventure in life, 50 years ago today. It seem but a short time ago, that as a young 22year old, I got into my car at 5.30A.M. on a cold snowy December 27th., morning in 1956 in Niagara Falls and took a ride up the Q.E W. to the O.P.P recruiting office at 291 Sherbourne St. in Toronto to get officially sworn in and posted to a District. There were five other eager recruits awaiting their postings. After being sworn in as Prov.Const. #3089 I was posted to #1 District H.Q. in Chatham. That is where I spent the next 6 years. I found it to be a most rewarding time in My life. I really learned what life was all about and how to be self sufficient and to treat others as You wanted to be treated. I left the O.P.P. in 1963 with good memories and several good friends that to this day I keep in contact with. I returned to My hometown and served another 30 years on the local Force retiring with the rank of Inspector in 1993 having served a totoal of 36 years in Police Service. So to all you youngsters out there with aspirations of becoming a police officer, I say it is not an impossible dream, work hard, be honest and fair and always remember that You are a servant of the public. I have no regrets and would do it all over again if I had the opportunity.
Christmas has passed now but I hope you all had a very merry Christmas and best wishes for 2007 to all of you. Thanks again for keeping the roads safe ... your presence is appreciated - even if you do pull me over now and then (lol ...)
I just found this site. WOW! I have wanted to become a police officer all my life and I have taken Police Foundations, so hopefully someday I will fullfill my goal!

I was wanting to apply for the cadet position but iam a little worried as I have little schooling, i have taken business administration st-lawrence college for only 1 year , iam currently a security guard for g4s security services and have been now for 4 months, before that i worked at a call center for 2 years , before that i worked at a&p for 5 years all jobs relating to customer service skills. my current job i think is the stepping stone to becomming a police officer , but i would like to take it one step further and become a cadet. I was wondering if I am rushing into this , I am 21 years old with my wife , my daughter who is 15 months, and one on the way in january 8th , i have signed up for volunteer firefighters , I dont have first aid , I dont have the police exams completed because I cannot afford it. I am wanting to get into the cadet program as I can gain experience in policing and move on to a constable position after I have saved enough money to get the tests done , also I have alot of school debt , personal loans ect... I saw that the police do checks for credit? do I have to have good credit to work with the police? please let me know what i should do about my situation. thanks!
I wondered if there were any OPP officers who had previously served in any UK forces. I am a serving Constable in Metropolitan Police. Partner and I are considering emigration to Canada and would be interested to hear of your experiences. Will be visiting Ontario at some point early next year to learn more about the Province. Any information or advice would be appreciated. Best wishes to my Canadian counterparts.

Our hearts and thoughts and prayers are with the Mounsey family at there time of loss. David Mounsey touched my life deeply. An angel now with wings.
I was born in Toronto in 1946. My mom went to the hospital to give birth in a police car. My Dad was an OPP constable. He now has alzheimers. Is there any record of Duncan McKenzie Little serving 1945 - 1950? thanks so much.
For anyone who worked with my Dad - I'm always interested in stories,my new email address for stories about me Dad, Const. Jim Blair - sonichedgie@yahoo.ca Thank-you!
Hello from BC. I'm a retired peace officer, 15yrs. traffic and 12 yrs. commercial transport inspector. Read your honour roll and I'm saddened by all the losses
I served with the O.P.P. in Merlin for five years..69-74 and Cec HAWKE was the N.C.O. in charge. I was a young Prob Cst. from Sask. I moved with a wife and a 6 month old daughter. Pat and Cec took us under their wing and made the move much easier for Ruth and I. Cec was always fair and a no nonsense type of a Det. Commander. Cec taught me many lessons regrding Police work. I left the force and joined the RCMP and moved back out west, I did not leave because I did not enjoy my time with the force but for family reasons. We heard of Cec passing away last week and he will be missed. Ruth and I keep in touch with Pat and Cec over the years and enjoyed hearing about the force and goings on in Ontario. I used many of the lessons taught to me by Cec with my career in the RCMP. I feel that the O.P.P. is a good example of what a police force should be and that Cec was one of the many members that have made it so....Neil and Ruth LOWES
I was wondering if the OPP officer Greg Stobbart who recently passed away ever worked with the Toronto Police Service. I remember an officer by the same name I worked with many years ago at 23 Division. Probably between 18 to 20 years ago. He was good buddies with a "Jeff" who also left Toronto for the OPP about the same time. I think that Mike McMenemy also worked at 23 Division. I am Sgt. Annie LEONARD now, but was known as PC Annie ZEMECKAS when I worked at 23 Division. I worked there between 1983 and 2003. I hope someone can advise me. I remember the Greg Stobbart I knew was always in great shape and had a sense of humour.
Looking for Armand Mivllo a opp officer in Blindriver Ont in the early 1950s

in regards to the Caledonia issues: There are many who feel the issue of law enforcement was not dealt out evenly. For good reason. If I can humbely suggest this. Why not allow the officers with a warrant in thier hands the ability to do their jobs. ? Alot of us are wandering now ?? We were so content in feeling the OPP were a glimouring example of a top notch force. Maybe just maybe they aren't what we thought they were. We still however have pride in your force(actually our force), but please just let the front line officer do his job.
Stay safe! Mike Lalonde (OPP Officer, Sudbury)
I went to OPP Bound a few months ago! We all had a great time, we couldn't believe that the OPP would take the time and resources to have us and their home (HQ) for 1 week! Thank you OPP, and thank you to all the officers that shared so many experiences with us. Who are we? OPP!
Gregory Stobbart, Badge#7324 was killed on June 6th in a cycling accident near. Milton Ontario. We wish to thank all of the OPP officers who were involved in assisting our family through this tragic event. Officers CHRIS WALDRON & MARK HINDMAN of Whitby Detachment along with DAVE MCNABB & JIM EVANS of Peterborough transported the family to and from Hamilton General Hospital. We cannot express how we appreciate the kindess and professionalism displayed by these men through that long night. Detachment Commander Inspector ANDY KARSKI & Inspector ROBIN MCLEARY-DOWNER were at the hospital along with MONICA HARRIS, a grief counselor. We felt we were enveloped in the caring arms of very professional and compassionate people that night and through to the end of the funeral. We would also like to thank the members of the Honour Guard. A special thanks to Detective Constable MIKE (VERN) MCMENEMY for the excellent eulogy he presented. These officers were all close friends of Greg. There were many colleagues and friends including those from Caledon, Killaloe, Rockland and other detachments in which Greg served that we have not mentioned by name. They are all in our hearts and prayers of thanks. The Stobbart Family jen.george@sympatico.ca cathy.stobbart@region.durham.on.ca christinac42@hotmail.com

This is really a great site to visit. I would be interested in knowing of OPP constables that worked at Kakabeka Falls on the 1950's and 60's. If anyone remembers these officers, please let me know. Thank you.
This is an excellent site - very up-to-date and I enjoy checking it for news. I personally would have loved to become an OPP officer but due to health (epilepsy) reasons, I wouldn't have passed the medical I'm sure. Thanks to all of you for keeping us safe and looking out for us.
I have just returned from OPP Bound 2006. What a fantastic week! Anyone who is interested in a policing career should definately look into this program run throughout the summer! This years theme was diversity. A group of diverse people from all races, religions, genders came together for a week and became a new family. The OPP went above & beyond devoting their time, personal stories, knowlege & experience and so much more with us. A special thank you to Sandy Thomas, Diane Rubinato, Karen Meyer, Angie Howe, Cathy Bell, Chris Bannon, Laura Emery, Jim Crate, Beth Primm, Umar Shabazzi, Susan Fong, Steve Haennal, Peter Shipley, Mark Morphet, Al Badour, Robin James, Daryll Wilson, Vanessa Lesley, Will Lee and the list goes on. Thanks so much for the experience of a lifetime. To new friends & new memories! See you soon!!!!!

to the officer who went out of his way to give me an o.p.p baseball hat i thank you very much and i'll wear it proudly.........thank you
Hi, There is a great collection of short stories about an OPP officer by an author in Brampton. It is called "The Robbie Burns Revival and Other Stories". The author's name is Cecilia Kennedy. The book is available on Amazon or Chapters via the internet. The stories are realistic and show how casework and personal life of a young officer (Tony Aardehuis) can sometimes collide with results that we can all recognize and be entertained by. Hope you like it. Bruce
Hi I'm new to this site and hoping anybody out there can help me. I am looking for a former OPP officer who has since last known to moved to Ohio. His name is Malcolm Davies/Davis. I would really like to find out any info if possible. He did grow up in the Niagara Falls region. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you Kim
2 Little Stories: 1) I was 14 when I first met a Police Officer is name was Cst.Morris, I was playing hockey in the street with a friend when he stopped is car in the middle of the road and turned is emergency lights on! I was so scared of cops back then that I was sure he was going to arrest us, but no.... He asked me if he could see my stick, I gave it to him. He looked at me and started to laugh and said you guys up for a game!!!! We didn't play long that day but the memorie will always stay. From that momment on I wanted to be a Police Officer. Cst. Morris is now with the O.P.P and I still talk to him once in a while when I volunteer at special events. Thank You! In 1997 Cst. Dubois of the Hawkesbury Police Services, and is cousin P.M Larocque started the Hawkesbury Police Explorers for kids between the age of 14 and 17 years old. In 1999 the Hawkesbury Police changed to O.P.P. They took in the program with open arms. Since then we've been treated with respect by all Police Officer of the O.P.P. I am now 25 and will apply as reg.constable in the coming weeks. Thanks to Cst.Dubois and the OPP. http://www.policeexplorers.org/explorers.html
Had the pleasure to see the OPP Golden Helmets perform here in Columbus, Ohio this afternoon. It was an amazing show! As a long-time motorcycle rider, and a motorcycle police traffic officer, I was impressed by both the skill and the professionalism exhibited by the officers. They are truly a credit to your force!
the o.p.p are the finest officers i have ever met/you keep us all safe from harm and are true heros everyday of your lives.Thank you for keeping us safe and keeping us from danger
Many thanks for serving the Province of Ontario through all four seasons and the many dangers you face. Hayes Legion Captain Adjutant – Eastern Command THE LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN OF THE COMMONWEALTH Canada (Countess Mountbatten’s Own)
We would like to pass on our support for your Caledonia effort. Justice Marshall should help uphold "rule of law". To your 14 injured and those of the OPP pipe band we salute you. Please drive safely!
I just wanted to say hello, to everyone. I have a cousin, who is a member of the OPP. Sadly, I have lost touch with him over the years. The last time I spoke to him, and seen him was 10 yrs. ago, at a family reunion. His name is Kevin Caddell, and I hopfully he will see this message, and get in contact with me. I am very proud at what he does..Thanks!

In 1998 I had the honour to be the Pipe Major of one of the bands that were part of the 1998 Nova Scotia Tattoo and was given a piee of music called "The Commissioners march".I am now the Pipe Major of the Metropolitan Police service Emerald society Pipes&Drums in London U.K and I would like to get hold of a copy of the musice to add to our pipe programme,so if any olp OPP Piper has a copy I would appreciate a copy.1998 nearly 10 years where did the time go?
I was saddened to hear of the death of Dale Wagar last winter. He died doing something he truly enjoyed: referring a hockey game. Dale served in Downsview, Kingston and London detachments I had the pleasure and honor of working with Dale in Downsview detachment. He was always an excellent police officer and an even better friend. He had a sense of humor that can best be described as inimitable. His tour of duty ended far too soon. God bless you Dale.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to all the OPP especially those on my route of travel during the week and weekends who are committed to making our roads, highways and waterways safe. The safety Blits put on are greatly appreciated and it shows how scary all would be if you were not there to stop the aggressors who just do not get it. The OPP always give the public warning when these blitz are planned and yet quite a few just do not care about themselves or the general public. Keep up the excellent work and as a citizen thanks. Remember for every person who will say thanks there are ten more who remaind voiceless yet appreciative.
Great web site keep up the good woek
The last time I was stopped by an OPP Police Officer was in June 2000, I remember the incident so well because I had never been stopped by constable as polite as he was. He was just checking to see that I was wearing my seatbelt. Since then I had always wanted to go up to him and thank him for being so concerned about my safety and courteous about that, although I didn’t know his name, I do remember what he looked like. -- About 2 years before that, another Gravenhurst OPP constable drove up to me and told me she thought I looked suspicious, then she took another look and suddenly and quickly drove off. I could never understand that tactic of police investigation and I have not spoken to any Gravenhurst OPP Officers since 1998. Although that was a first time for the OPP, I have been told that: about the way I look, more times than I have had traffic tickets. -- I have never lived in that area, my last ticket was issued at Gravenhurst in 1979, even then I didn’t agree with the charge, but I didn’t tell the officer what I thought he looked like. At another time when I needed assistance, this same Officer was there, and went out of his way to help me. I know that being a police officer is no easy task, after that time I had read in a local paper about police matters concerning constables Kirton and Grossmith. I knew Nancy from public school, but hadn’t talked with her since 1960, I think it was something I said, about the way she looked, but I remember when her dad went out of his way to help me when I needed it.-- About 1989 I was driving near Lion’s Head where I noticed Wiarton OPP Constable Pearson backing along the highway, with a cow running along the ditch. I just went a little down the road and opened a farm gate, where I waited for Bill to arrive with the cow. I wouldn’t want to think what could happen if a beast as big as that strayed onto the highway, in front of an unsuspecting motorist, especially someone like me, on a motorcycle.-- On July 10, 2005, I had the opportunity to talk with Glenn (retired from OPP), I’ve always found him as an interesting person to talk to, I guess it depends what your interests are. I also spoke to a friend of his, also a retired policeman and a friend of Bill, as well. The following week, on July 17th I saw the constable that stopped me in July 2000, I didn’t go up and talk to him, because I didn’t know the other two officers he was with. I remembered what he looked like and I thought I’d have the opportunity to talk to him at another time. His picture was in the news a few days later… it was Andrew Potts.
i would like to send my sincerest condolences and deep heartfelt sympathy out to the family, friends and co-officers of the late Constable JOHN ATKINSON, MR ATKINSON was killed in the line of duty friday may 5/06 in Windsor Ontario. GOD BLESS his wife and children.
Recently noted a query from Michael Goreski at Brighton Det. I served in that det. from 63-85. Perhaps someone down there might remember my name. Enjoying retirement from Essex Det. 85-93
Hello i am wondering if any one knows Barry Watson Ex Surrey and Kent Police officer. I am a serving Surrey officer and trying to trace Barry. He immigrated to Canada with his family. Last i heard he was hoping to get into the OPP. Barry was residing in the Wasaga Beach Area. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. John
I was in my early twenties when I joined the OPP. I have been retired since 1993 from the Barrie detachment and miss the job. I have now relocated to Kirkfield enjoying the view of the Trent system. I make every effort to keep busy as I was diagnosed with Parkinson's about 9 years ago. I am glad I found out about this site as it may help to get in touch with people I worked with.
Just found this site and .... Gads but I'm OLD! These "young whipper-snappers" in here wern't even an evil thought in their poppa's mind when I was Policing! My number on the Guelph Police was (12) and then in 1949 I had #1598 in the O.P.P. Days gone by for sure. Loved it all but wouldn't think of doing it nowadays. No real law or real courts now. No real Politicians with guts to do anything but coddle the criminal. "Scotty beam me up!" http://www.xyzwebline.com/hheath2
THANK YOU, I would like to thank everyone for supporting our family after the loss of my step father Senior Constable Dale Wagar (Middlesex Detachment). I was very proud of Dale for all that he did in life, particularly his chosen profession. I am equally proud that it was the O.P.P that Dale policed with. Both past and present members have been there for us during this time, and I just can't thank you all enough. This past week a letter came to my mom from the Association and in the letter mom was addressed as "sister". This meant so much to my mom and to us kids, we really do feel like members of the O.P.P family. Thanks again to you all, I don't know what more to say to express my appreciation. Best Wishes, Patricia Jackson

In memory of my "brother" Ken Tex Deane. You were a true professional in every since of the word. I was beside you in that SUV that awful February afternoon. I'm still beside you brother! Your memory will never die.
As site and profession to be proud of. Stay Safe. John Kinane, National Vice President, Administration, Emerald Society Of The Federal Law Enforcement Agencies. www.esflea.org, www.joekinane.com
Wow... this is the type of site I've been looking for in my attempt to understand police officers a little more than I do. I grew up in a police family; worked for a police dept.; share stories and jokes with a disabled police officer from my old days in records; am currently questioning my feelings for a police officer and hope that the forums on www.forums.officer.com will help in all the above areas. Plus, I'm now the primary care-giving daughter of a now retired officer who suffers greatly from injuries he received while on the job.
hi i'm in grade 5 only 10 i am doing a speach on oppa so thats why i'm here on this site!!!
Ken "Tex" Deane, or cousin Ken. There's so much to be said about a guy like Ken, it's hard to put into words. But those that knew him know exactley what I mean. And those that never had the opprunity to meet him, will one day, somewhere hear somebody telling a "remember when" story about him!! Because the life of Ken will always live on in our hearts, our minds and most of all the great stories about him that will live on forever and be told over and over!! Were all going to miss you Buddy!
I was fortunate to play slo pitch with Ken Deane many years ago...Not only was he a great Police Officer but also a lot of fun to be around...He will be missed.
Ken Deane (Tex) will be missed by many, including myself. He was a dedicated officer & unfortunately his career & life ended too short! My deepest sympathy to his fellow officers, family & friends. Only the good die young...
Ken Deane I met Ken briefly during a very difficult time in his life but his courage, strength and determination to survive left an ever lasting impression on me that I can not explain. My heart goes out to his family and friends. You were truly blessed to have this amazing man in your lives.

Hey, on behalf of students and teachers of Bramalea Secondary School I would like to thank you for your service and bravery. I hope one day I can be just like you.
I am a member of a different kind of uniform. I am a Patrol Officer of a Private Security Firm. I want to thank the OPP Officer who helped my partner and I on the QEW near Niagara Falls, Ontario. This Officer stopped when he saw our unit disabled with a blown tire. He initiated his lights and stayed there until we were safely on our way on Feb 10, 2006. After we finished he extended his hand and shook mine with a professional courtesy I have not been shown by many municipal police officers. Thanks once again, and keep up the great work to ALL OPP Officers!
hey everyone i jaut wanted to say that i think that our police are doing a good job in trying to stop crime

I would like to wish everyone of the O.P.P. a very Merry Christmas {bit delayed}, and hope everyone had a safe New Year -- great job at keeping us all safe!! Secondly, I want to thank all the officers - of every level that attended the funeral of my Father - Senior Constable Jim Blair - this past June. This holiday season has been quite difficult for myself, my family, friends & I'm sure all of those who worked/knew my Dad. He would have completed 37 years as an O.P.P. officer this past October -- something I am extremly proud of -- and will never forget --my father being an O.P.P. officer has been the only thing I have known. Words can not express how proud I am of my Dad for being able to do the job that he did for that length of time, he loved his job as I'm sure all of you Officers do -- that's what keeps you going back each day. Looking back to the day of my Dad's funeral the image of seeing the sea of blue uniforms still sticks in my mind - just one of many honorable moments for me, another was as we left the church - all Officers in attendance had lined the stairway (both sides) down to the street - saluting one of their own that had passed - no words will ever describe the feeling I had as I walked down those stairs past each officer - saluting -- These feelings of honor and respect I hold for my Dad...and all other O.P.P./Peace Keeping Officers will never be able to be expressed in words enough to say how much each of you mean. The words of kindness on that sad day & days after have meant so much to myself & my family -- thank-you so very much for all your compassion. One final thank-you that must be said -- to the two young Officers that stood at the front of the Church with my Dad--thank you, I know how difficult it must have been -- but you did good & it meant a lot to us. Thank-you again for everything you all have done for us. If anyone has any stories that they can share with me, I would like stories about my Dad -- don't hold back I know there's some pretty good ones out there - we all can use a good laugh in rememberance. Please send me as many emails as you would like; sambyam001@yahoo.ca
