... A SAFE AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR …
Hello- I have been working for the past 6 years obtaining road design changes on our Ontario roads to make them safer. I feel that local road departments- and M.t.O - must catch up with provinces like Alberta- Wisconsin-Texas and Florida in their road designs. With O.P.P officers witnessing head on car collisions- on a constant basis- I would think it would be helpfull to obtain a letter of supportfrom the Ontario Provincial Police Association of support-to encourage road departments to install-paved shoulders on main roads whenever they are being resurfaced- i have a study which shows there is a 20,000.00 savings to society- in accident reductions with a fully paved shoulder- and it saves the 8,000.00 per mile of gravel maintenance-and grading they are spending of taxpayers monies. The C.A.A have been agreeing with this concept for many years- and yet some roads departments still- put a dangerous 18 inche pave shoulder- where care go into the gravel- overcompensate and head into oncoming traffic. PAVED SHOULDER SAVES MONEY AND LIVES!! Thanks Paul Mallory Barrie Ontario Dec 23/2001

As a civilian team leader at the Central Region Operations Centre in Orillia, I am very pleased with the outcome of the vote for representation. I for one certainly have a sense of brotherhood with our uniformed counterparts now more than I ever did whilst with OPSEU! Thanks for all you did to help make this come about!
I would just like to say. On behalf of the members of the Ontario Government Protective Services we are very happy and please of the out come of the OPP Civilian Vote. We are happy to be part of this fine organization.
Just to let you know of the new email address, effective today.. Weather beautiful out here, little to cool to golf though..
Just a note to change my e-mail address, it is as noted
I read your artical on police vs security .I came across it while doing some research on private security. As a member of the private security field I would like to say that we are not all " police wanna be's " ,And that we do not wish to replace what you do . I would also like to say that I for one believe that professional policeing is and always will be needed . I comend all police forces on a job well done , and hope that all officials will see that private security is there to protect investments not solve crimes .
A friend of mine told me about this website and, am glad, she did. Working for the OPP as a civilian has been a rewarding experience. Thank you, O.P.P. for the opportunity.
I read your article written on your site regarding Policing vs Security. I am in the security field and the author's point was clearly made and taken. It should also be stated that there are well paid in-house Security Officers out there that do have post secondary backgrounds and are proud of the work that they do and the public that they serve as well. I am working in the housing projects in Toronto and if it were not for TPS my job would be impossible to do effectively. As far as the minimum wage guards that were mentioned I don't think that any citizen or politician with half a brain in their head can draw a comparison between the two. I have been in private security for a number of years and the police are a necessary part of security work whether it is the guard at a closed construction site or a special constable force the police are a key link in the process of daily duties. Keep up the excellent work that you people do and let it be known that I will never vote for any politician who wants to put law enforcement on the back burner. I am not alone on this issue by a long-shot! RI.

I think this sit is very well done. I hope to be a Police Officer when I grow up.
Expression of Gratitude I joined the OPP in 1951 and retired in 1987. My connection with the OPP Association began with attending organizing meetings in 1954. Also in later years as a member of the Board of Directors along with Fred Macdonald and others from that era. My son Senior Constable Kirk Wood serves at Midland Detachment. Sadly on March 19th. 2001 my wife of forty-nine years and his mother passed away. I am writing to express my most sincere gratitude and that of my son and three daughters for the expressions of condolences received from active and serving members of the force. Many attending the funeral traveled considerable distances to offer their support. Off duty members from Kirk’s detachment, formed a uniform honor guard at the service. This tribute to Louise and our family was most gratifying, it certainly attests to the fact that serving and retired members of the OPP are a family with a common bond. I would like to conclude by acknowledging all the assistance received from the OPPA in this trying time. Sincerely, James A (Jim) Wood.
I have found this website by accident and I am sure I will visit it in the future. Now that I have found it, I can send the following message: I would just like to say thank you to the Members of the OPPA, and all those people who attended my last day "retirement" festivities on February 28th in Orillia. After thirty-one years of working for the OPP, two summers as a student and all those years of being a cops' kid, I am looking forward to moving on to something else. I very much appreciated the time taken by all those who attended. In particular, thank you to Pierre Jacques first of all for being there and who made a presentation on behalf of the Association. It was indeed gratifying, as a civilian, to be recognized by the Association. It was truly appreciated.
These sites are great to inform us about the organization!
In memory of my beloved father, Detective Inspector James mccormick, who passed away on Friday, August 25th, 2000, after a suddenly short bout with terminal cancer. My father was a quiet and studious man, who loved his career and his daughters. As the youngest, I often ignored his advice while I was a teenager. Now at 34 years of age, I think back to his words and they were truly words of wisdom that I so wish I would of listened. He was always right. When he retired at the age of 50, we developed an incredible friendship, something I will hold dear to my heart for as long as I live. He changed after his retirement. He became a fun-loving jokester, living his life to the fullest. It was at that time that I really came to know and love my father. I miss him and cry for him everyday. Most of all I miss his voice on the phone calling me and saying "Hey Kiddo"! My father was one of a kind. A good, honest, moral man who raised two young girls on his own. He did a great job. I miss him every second of everyday. Dad, I love you forever, you will always be in my thoughts. God took you too soon. Love always, your baby girl, Susan xoxoxoxo

Interested in joining the O.P.P
Hi! Have enjoyed the entries in the Guestbook. My Dad - Harry Boyd - retired O.P.P. just celebrated his 81st birthday. A favourite past-time for the entire neighborhood is listening to his stories - especially when he was stationed in Schrieber, Ontario - this was in 1947! Times have changed! We are hoping this spring he can hand the badge to his grandson when he graduates with York Regional Police. The best of health to all!
