I would like to put out a challange to all that visit this site. It's been a very difficult year for the people who live in Chatham. we lost two very important people in our community. Const. Jim McFadden and Sgt. Marg Eve. The OPPA has set up a memorial bursery fund in their names. The Goodlife Fitness club in Chatham where Marg was a member is setting up a fundraiser and this is were you come in. We are looking for people to participate in "THE ULTIMATE SURVIVAL CHALLANGE". My father, Sgt. Normand Gaudreault, of the Kapuskasing Detachment died on August 2nd, 2000. I would like to thank you, the association, for all the help you have offered to my family during this difficult and strenuous illness. We have received the wonderful frame with his memorium badge and identification card you have sent us. It means a great deal to the family as his job was his life. He loved his job more than anyone can imagine. Here is an example. In his last few days of life, he would beg us to let him go back to work. He said he missed everyone at the office terribly and most of all he missed working in his community. He was very dedicated to his job. He tried to go back to work twice knowing very well that he had not yet recovered from his surgeries and treatments, but he was too stubburn for any of us to stop him. That's how much he loved his work. My mother, Jeanne, brother Ronald, sister Julie and myself, Josee, would also like to thank all of his past and present co-workers, you all have helped us, especially my father, in more ways than you can imagine. Wether it was the funds raised by fellow officers to cover travelling expenses during his treatments, visits at home during his last few months, visits during his hospital stays and most importantly, those phone calls with such tender and encouraging words. You will never know how much he appreciated and loved every single one of you. You all were his family away from home. Also, we would like to thank all fellow officers who attended his funeral, especially those who travelled far to get there and those who participated in the funeral itself. You have all made us realize how loved and respected he was as an OPP Officer. Over the years, you have become part of our family. We will forever be grateful to you. On behalf of the members of the Delta Police Association, I wish to pass on our sincere regrets on learning of the tragic death of Sgt. Margaret Eve. Just two months ago we lost one of our own officers, Cst. Mark Nieuwenhuis, who was killed while on duty on his motorcycle. The loss of a fellow officer is a tragic reminder that our profession uniquely binds us all together as a large family, and we all feel that loss together. I am the daughter of a now retired OPP officer – I cannot imagine the pain felt by the family of Sgt. M. Eve. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Look to those that love you for comfort and support and know that she will always watch over you. ANGELS Have you ever watched the clouds on a bright sunny day, you can see the shapes of many angels floating on their way. Angels are always here, all we have to do is ask. They come floating from the clouds, to help us with our tasks. As children we say a very special prayer, but as we grow older, sadly the time is never there. Even though we forget them, angels never leave our side, they're always there to love us and be our special guides. Have you ever heard a whisper or felt a gentle breeze, that's just one of our angels asking us to get upon our knees. They love for us to pray with them heartfelt words of love, for this brings a special union, like two beautiful white doves. With regrets I was unable to attend the funeral of Sgt. Eve due to work constraints. As a fellow member of an emergency service I respect the work Marg, and all other Police officer do. Stopping by the side of the highway (wether conducting a traffic stop, or rendering assistance at a collision) is never safe. We must all remember that. Everybody, please, BE SAFE!!!

I travel the Bloomfield Road to Highway 21 stretch of highway 401 daily and every time an accident happens on this strecht it saddens to no end. My heart breaks everytime I pass a memorial of flowers or crosses on this road. Things like this shouldn't happen. I never knew Sgt. Marg Eve, but her death touches us all. My deepest and heart felt sympathies to the family of Sgt. Marg Eve, her friends and all OPP officers. Know that my prayers and thoughts are with you all. In 1988 I worked in Wallaceburg OPP, the neighbouring detachment of Sombra OPP. In a short period of time I was quickly introduced to everyone including Marg. With the clustering of detachments I found myself working with Marg. Marg had a great fondness for children and she oftened "borrowed" my oldest daughter for all day visits. Unfortunately we often don't realise how much we affect the lives of those around us nor how much those around us affect our lives. Marg's passing has brought this realisation home with a tremendous impact. MArg will be sadly missed in this household. John, remember you have friends at every corner who are willing to help you. I have been a serving member of the Toronto Police Service for the past 30 years and my son Brett has been a Police Officer for just over 2 1/2 years (with York Regional Police Service and now Toronto Police Service). We both attended the funeral service in Chatham on Tuesday, June 13,2000 for Sgt. Marg EVE. I never had the opportunity to met Sgt. EVE but it is obvious she was one of the best! We would like to send our condolences to the EVE family and all of her fellow officers in the Ontario Provincial Police, especially the Chatham detachment! 

I never had the priviledge of actually meeting Officer Eve, but quite often had the chance to see her on the highway. I travel the 401 at least once a week past Chatham. Hopefully this will be the last time I will have to travel that stretch of highway with a funeral procession of officers from across North American honouring one of their own. Enough is enough. Godspeed to Officer Eve and to the rest of the officers, please be careful. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of all Law Enforcement Officers. See you out there. T.

As a retired police office, I have seen only too often the tragic results of motor vehicle crashes and have felt the anguish of the familits so terribly affected. Margaret made quite an impression on us all when she showed up at Kitchener Detachment as one of the new auxiliary OPP officers in the early 80's. Her striking red hair and six foot plus height made for a commanding presence, a presence that served us well as an Auxiliary OPP officer, and later as an OPP constable and sergeant. Thanks for assisting on all those ride-alongs Margaret! 

It is with great sorrow that we send our prayers to the family of Sgt.Eves. She has made the ultimate sacrifice and will remain one of our heros forever.

I served as a Police Officer for over 46 years. In Palestine, England, and finally in Canada. It always grieves me to learn of the death, especially in the line of duty, of any Police Officer. On behalf of my Wife Lorna, myself, and all members of the International Police Associatio in Canada, might I send our deepest sympathy on behalf of us all. This wonderful lady, Wife,Mother, and Police Officer, is going to be more than missed.Her untimely death will bring much sadness to all who knew her, and for those of us who did not. May she rest in peace, and her family find comfort in our support. 

Our deepest sympathies to the Eve family. How troubling it is to have to put another name on the police memorial so soon. I have never met Marg that I recall, but since her passing, I have spoke with many who did know her well. She sounds like the type of officer who was well respected, a pleasure to work for, and was a credit to the OPP. We will all miss her I am sure. 

It saddens me to hear about the death of Sgt. Margaret Eve. Although I never had the pleasure to meet this young lady this incident is very upsetting. I have been retired from the service for almost 2 years but when something this terrible takes place the pain is the same as it was when I was an active member. My family sends its sympathies to the Eve family. No words can express the sorrow that we feel. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. To the active officers,of whom I still very proud of, take care of yourselves and continue on even through these dark moments. Talk to your husbands,wives and children about their fears as a result of this loss as out of something so awful there will be some positives found that will help you. 

Saddened to read about the tragic and sudden death of Marg EVE. Sincere condolences to Marg's family and our best wishes for a speedy recovery to all those who were injured in the same terrible incident. Also, my personal thoughts and empathy go to those who had to and are having to, deal with this awful occurrence.

Growing up with a father who was a member of the Ontario Provincial Police I got to see the bond of the brotherhood and sisterhood of not only the OPP members but policing in general....and when tragic situations happen to ones brother or sister in the line of duty....that bond gets strengthend. Rest in peace Sgt Eve, and my condolences not only to her immediate family, but also to the members of the OPP family as well.

Our two children, Ian - 4 & Kylie - 3, who were admitted to Childrens Hospital in London due to complications associated to Ecoli infection are now at Home. Now that things have settled somewhat Cathy & I would like to thank everyone (and there are Many!)who supported us during the past three weeks. Unit and Strathroy OPP for transportation, visits & food deliveries, Western Region HQ members for their visits & support & to the OPPA for your financial support. The medical staff at Children's Hospital were astounded at not only the support that we received but how it was extended to all of the families from Walkerton who were at the Hospital. Special thanks to A/Sgt Mike Gibson Petrolia OPP for being there for us, P.C. Myra Rusk...thank you, & to S/Sgt. Holmes, Det. Comm South Bruce Detachment. Your prayers for our children no doubt assisted with their recovery. They are doing well and will be monitored for Kidney & Blood complications from their ordeal for some time. I have known Marg since our days at Conestoga College together. I lived next door to her and we shared many great times together. I was thrilled when she first arrived in Lambton County to work. I served at a neighbouring detachment to Sombra, where Marg worked, in the late 80's and was always moved by the sense of family that Sombra detachment had. Marg was indeed a major part of that family & I have fond memories of working with her and seeing her & her husband John at the numerous social functions held in the area. I wish to extend my deep felt sympathy to the family of Margaret Eve. I have met Margaret on a couple of occasions, she will be missed by all members of the OPP W.H. MacKenzie Provincial U.S.R.U.  

My family and I send our sincerest sympathy to family and friends of the officer who passed away due to her injuries caused by a careless truck driver, this pass week, on the 401 highway. Hi folks, just back from the sunny south, and am bach on line, OPPA is doing a great job, very good site, as we get older we see more of our retired officers departing, they sure will be missed. 

Served with Hank Jeannes during WW2 in the RCNVR as wireless operators and after the war Hank joined the OPP as a radio operator. He as well as myself is probably retired by now and would greatly appreciate contacting him if at all possible. Many thanks for any assistance possible.
