A HOLIDAY WISH. We would like to take this opportunity, with the assistance of modern technology(e-mail), to wish everyone a happy, healthy holiday season, especially those men and women of all emergency services who are working to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for others. Also we wish the retired members and their families a joyous holiday season as well as the OPPA staff for their dedication and assistance through some trying times. A Big Thank You to all who have assisted so many and given of your time throughout the year so that others who are not as fortunate may participate and enjoy a better quality of life. We hope the NEW Millennium will be properous and that somehow the police and the community will come together in a joint partnership like never before to reduce crime in our Province and carnage on our highways. Last but not least we wish the Politicians,Federally & Provincially, have the intestinal fortitude and courage of the majority of Canadians to make this Country a healthier and safer place to live. Happy holidays to all and wishing you the best in 2000 and beyond.

Just popping in to say Hi, and a big thank you to all of you in Law Enforcement. God knows how much we need you in these trying times. PS- my brother Ron Sherwin I am happy to say is a proud member of your force. He's our families 'Pride and Joy" Blessings and Peace to all of you. One more thing....I would sincerely like to THANK OPP Constable EUGENE FITZGERALD who works out of the WHITBY ONTARIO Detachment....one summer night in 1994 my young son, my elderly mother my two little dogs and I were lsft stranded on the side of Hwy. 401 just outside of Newcastle/Bowmanville. It was getting late and the sun had gone down. I was terrified, and finally remembered that my brother had given me a HELP CALL POLICE sign for emergencies such as this. Officer Fitztgerald came to our rescue within 5 minutes after pacing that sign on our car. Not only did he help us get our car off of the shoulder of the highway and into a safe place, he went the EXTRA 50 KILOmetres to drive all of us safely home in Scarborough.

Recently we lost a "Policmens Policeman",Charlie LOCKE. Charlie passed away after a lengthy illness after retiring in 85. I was deeply honoured to stand as honour guard at his servce. As a wet behind the ear cadet walking into Sudbury Detachment thirty years ago, He was the first Officer to introduce himself to me, grab a black and white and say "come'on I'll take you for a spin. You gotta get to know the beat ya know". His #1 Community Policing rule...."never turn down a cup of coffee, no matter how dirty the cup looks" He was and will be missed by all he touched.

After 15 years, we REMEMBER him and MISS him. May no other families have to go through the pain. Thanks for the Honour Roll. We greatly appreciate it. The Robertson Family

Hello to Jimmy Drennan from and "old workmate here in Halton" I served thirty years with the Halton Regional Police and retired in 1994. In 1995 I began a contract position with the Regional Municipality of Halton as a Welfare Fraud Investigator and I'm still at it. My son Jeremy Waller is currently in his second year with the City of Barrie Police. Just wanted to congratulate an OPP by the name of Chantelle on her marriage. I do not know which district she works in. We (my softball team and I) met her and her friends in Kincardine last weekend. If you (Chantelle) receive this message, I would love to have copies of the pictures you took. Please feel free to e-mail at anytime just to say hi. Who knows, maybe next year when we are in Kincardine again, we can meet your husband and go out for dinner somewhere. Anyway, hope to hear from you soon. If anyone knows Chantelle, we would appreciate it if you would make sure she gets this message. Sincerely, Jim P.S. You have a great site with lots of information. Keep it up.

If I am driving down the highway and I see what looks to be a citizens vehicle behind me with a flashing light on their dash to pull me over, how am I supposed to know if it's a police officer or it's not just some creep that went out and bought a flashing light from a novilty store? Should I stop for a vechicle that may NOT be a police officer? How is one to know? I don't like the idea of what seems to be an ordinary vehicle (unmarked) driven by the O.P.P. stopping people on the highways. Don't get me wrong. I have all of the respect in the world for police officers and I am the first one in line to defend an officer if someone is putting them down. I just don't like the thought of some creep out there with a flashing light on his dash pulling innocent people over (especially at night) who may not know any better. If I can't have a guarantee that you are a police officer behind me, I can't say that I would stop. I value my life too much. Any comments would be appreciated.

I wish my dad could see this! He was an O.P.P. officer for 18 years before he died suddenly of a heart attack the day before his 39th birthday while on duty in Tecumseh detachment, 1969. I wonder if there are any veteran officers who still remember him-Corp.John McCutcheon. He was one of three brothers who served with the O.P.P.-Jim McCutcheon, and Ken McCutcheon from Collingwood/Barrie area 30 years ago. It doesn't seem so long ago. They were some of your best shining examples of officers most deserving of the honor roll. I love you dad. Thank you for your love and committment as an officer and a father. Hi to counsin and officer Alana McCutcheon. God bless you all!

His mood swings are quite rapid from extreme highs to extreme lows. I will be seeing him again in about 2 weeks and would appreciate if anyone who knows Joe could send him E-mail via my internet address and I will make sure he gets the messages. PS - I made the second best decision of my career and retired on July 1st, 1998 and havent looked back since. First time at your site since my new computer hook-up. The old system had no graphics. Very impressive. I would like to emphasize the comments made by retired Inspector A.D.R. Smith about Sam Whitehouse. Sam was a man that policed and supervised in his own way and was respected by all those that really got to know him. My sympathy goes out to Margaret who stood by Sam and followed him like no other person could. I have now been retired for 5 years although it seems much shorter. All the best to everyone and good health.

May I be permitted to say how deeply saddened I was on learning of the death of Sam Whitehouse, Retired Supertintendent, No.13 D.H.Q., Sudbury. Sam was a policeman from a bygone era when law enforcement was done 24 hours per day, seven days per week. When the favourite sport of the local lay-abouts on a Saturday night was to hunt up and take on the "local cop". Sam was a strong man and always equal to the task which inevitably proved detrimental to the would-be "cop basher". Sam was a wonderful person who owed a great deal to his patient and lovely wife, Margaret. The Association and all who had the privilege of knowing Sam Whitehouse, extend their deepest sympathy to Margaret and family. Sam's knowledge and guidance touched many people and all of us are better persons for having known such a man as "Sam". Atholl D.R.SMITH - Inspector (retired)

Just playing on the internet(off duty of course)and came across this section. I'm a graduate of OPP class #291, Aug. 1998. Being a police officer is everything I always knew it would be. I began applying to forces when I was 21. Finally, 6 years later, I was accepted to the OPP on my second and final shot. If I may offer any advice to anyone aspiring to be a police officer it would be this; PERSEVERENCE AND DEDICATION. Never give up, if you want something bad enough, you'll get it. I'm so glad that I never gave up on my dream. I've been posted to the Burk's Falls detachment(a place that I never heard of until I was told I was going there) I'm loving every day of it and I can't wait to go in for my next shift. It's nice when you can say that about your job. Well, to all of class 291, all grads of OPC-Summer'98, and especially the members of OPC class BC-9820, have a great 1999 and BE SAFE.
